One of the stories here is that 11% of all voters (20% of those who voted no) identified environmental concerns such as global warming as their primary reason for voting no. This was second only to those who voted no because of the tax ...

Time for plan that will address moving goods and people, reduce global warming emissions
SEATTLE: The “Roads and Transit” package failed, with 56% of the voters in King, Pierce and Snohomish county voting against it. The Sierra Club campaigned against this proposition because it failed to reduce our region’s global warming emissions from transportation.
“Now we have a chance to work with our partners and public ...

The Seattle PI published the following letter to the editor in its online edition on Wednesday:
Open letter to King County Executive Ron Sims and the Sierra Club:
I -- and essentially everyone I know -- am deeply torn over Proposition 1.

The Sierra Club has three priorities for any regional transportation package. SEATTLE – A report showed that Seattle is on track to meeting its U.S. Mayors Climate Agreement goals, with one exception - emissions from transportation continue to grow. This points out the ineffectiveness of our current transportation system - which RTID/Sound Transit Prop 1 seeks to re-invest in. We should reject this plan, ...

As a reporter concluded a month ago, the more money they spend, the more people hear about this, the less they like it. After the yes campaign has spent millions, their support tops out in tax-and-spend liberal King County at 47%. That's where the highest concentration of voters live who would normally support Sound Transit, but can't stomach the greenhouse-gas-inducing highways served with it.

The Queen Anne Newspaper reflects the Seattle unrest with Prop 1. They urge voters to reject it.
The 32nd Legislative District Dems say "vote no" on their slate card. This increases the Democrats lack of enthusiasm, as the 36th, 43rd, and 46th District Democrats all could not muster support for the package.
With a recent polls showing the "yes" vote at 30%, this package is looking more and more like ...

Our climate is on the verge of crisis. We can't afford to build any more new highways.
